The Canadiens and Lightning went four-on-four 16 seconds into the game after Jeff Petry was sent off for tripping Tyler Johnson, who dove on the play. This opened up the ice and giving each side some extra room to break open the game. By the 5 minute mark of the 1st period, the Lightning were putting on the majority of the pressure up 4-2 on shot attempts (but only 1 shot on goal). Minutes the later, the Canadiens had jumped to a 3-1 lead in shots and were only down 5-4 on shot attempts taken.
